(Anonymous) 2023-07-10 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)- Do not under any circumstance approach a WOC comparing them or their skin color to any food or beverage. Or any POC really.
- Watch your mouth when talking negatively about any traditional cultural hairstyles, dress, or cuisines and reflect on if any stereotypes or biases are influencing your opinion.
- Do not ever use the term "BBC" in reference to a black man, ever. Unless they literally ask you to, it's fetishization and not welcome and not okay.
- Be careful with meme phrase usage as many of them originated in online black and queer communities and you may be using them incorrectly, or usage of them by someone not from those communities could be seen as antagonistic, offensive, or just wack.
- Don't use the phrase "spirit animal" of course, as it is considered offensive to some Indigenous communities. In the same vein, war bonnets for Coachella, dream catchers for your mood boards, and all manner of culture vulturing for the aesthetic is also off limits. You can appreciate any culture by actually reading/learning about it and the people who live in it and supporting those communities by purchasing from them, knowing their causes, and not wearing things as a costume.
And if you have a question or don't know something ask before you ask, if you know what I mean? No one owes you explanations on what's offensive or not, you're an adult with internet access, but if you must ask, ask if it's okay for you to ask and let that person decide if they have time, bandwidth, and empathy to do so. And if they say no, move on. There are many articles online of all these things and in 2023 if you don't care to learn, that's fine, but don't get upset when people look at you funny and don't like you for it.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-10 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)- If your character is white and posting about BIPOC related topics as an ally for whatever reason, always acknowledge your character's privilege. Even if you're a bipoc writer.
